Gene Carey Gene Carey

Gene Carey is a Performance Consultant providing specialized architecture, systems sizing, and design guidance to customers developing new applications or system environments to support business-processing needs.Prior to retiring from Hewlett-Packard in 2000, Gene had been a Senior Technical Consultant with HP since 1976, specializing in performance and capacity management services, and also providing project management services for UNIX and NT environments. 

Gene provides services to customers in all aspects of performance and capacity management, including initial architectural guidance of theoretical systems and applications designs, characterization of existing applications in assessing system migration, application enhancement, or capacity growth projection assessments, as well as design guidance in application development and systems implementation choices as they relate to the overall performance of the application environment.Gene provides implementation and usage guidance on Hewlett-Packard's performance tool sets, including guidance in development of performance metrics to support data center SLAs.He has supported a large number of benchmark and stress test activities for UNIX and client/server environments.

Gene has had in-depth training on UNIX and NT platforms, including theory of operations, performance monitoring and tuning, OpenView Operations, network programming and administration, relational database design, and performance modeling concepts.He has received training from Oracle and SAP focusing on performance monitoring and tuning.  Gene is an HP OpenView Certified Consultant.

Gene works with all aspects of performance: systems, network, database, and application.  He has worked extensively with customers using SAP and InterMail, integrating and correlating application and system metrics.He has helped design and implement SAN solutions using both EMC and XP256. Gene has experience in multi-vendor environments.

Prior to joining Hewlett-Packard, Gene worked in IT management and data center technical support in the manufacturing and education industries, gaining background in data center management, application implementation, and systems support for the IBM environment. 

Gene holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from UCLA.He is an active member of the Computer Measurement Group.
